Established in 1976 by Lois Margolet in Wilmington, Delaware, Capriotti's has been a pioneer in the art of crafting deliciously unique subs, artisan salads, hearty soups, and kid-friendly grilled cheese meals. Lois's dream of owning a sandwich shop became a reality when she quit her full-time job, borrowed money, and transformed a boarded-up building on North Union Street into the iconic Capriotti's Sandwich Shop that still proudly stands today.
Inspired by their grandfather, Philip Capriotti, known for his passion for cooking, Lois and her brother Alan decided to name the shop in his honor. The vision was clear – to capture the hearts of real turkey lovers and create a dining experience that would set Capriotti's apart from its competitors. From the beginning, the focus has been on serving sandwiches made-to-order, featuring fresh roasted pulled turkey, the highest quality meats and cheeses, and daily deliveries of fresh rolls and produce. Over 30 years later, Capriotti's Sandwich Shops across the nation continue to carry on this tradition, providing a taste of the original Delaware charm combined with a commitment to excellence that has made Capriotti's a beloved destination for sandwich enthusiasts nationwide.
