Columbia Gorge Fruit Growers has been awarded a 2011 Oregon 319 Grant from the State of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for a project titled “Hood River Valley Codling Moth Management.” This project involves 1200 acres owned and operated by 20 growers in the Dee Flat and Odell area of Hood River. The starting date for the grant was March 1, 2012, and the completion date is October 2012. The objective of the grant is to significantly reduce the amount of organophosphates used for codling moth control through an intense monitoring and mating disruption program. This project will serve as a model for the remaining 14,000 acres of tree fruit orchards in the Hood River Valley.
